Sweet Little Gracie!
It all begins with an idea. I had this vision of a headstrong 45 year old woman who was going to kick ass and take names. Grace originally didn’t have a last name, but I knew even before I wrote the story that the name of the book would be A Fall for Grace.
Initially, it was going to be a revenge story, Grace having her heart broken one too many times would exact revenge on all the men who had done her wrong. That was the story, period, end of sentence.
You see if you want to know about Grace then look no further than yours truly. I have seen my fair share of trauma, heartbreak and made to be the bad guy in someone else’s story one too many times in my life. Was any of it deserved, yes and no. But I’m not perfect, but I have never claimed to be.
Grace receives years of emotional abuse and body shaming by her husband, Hank. I had received the very same from my ex-husband, so I knew where she was coming from. She gets cheated on, yup been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
After kicking my ex-husband out, I had my fair share of “fun” always to end with “it was just great fun”. But starved for any sort of attention I had hoped it would be more, but that was not meant to be. I have moved on, but I thought, what if this character, Grace, hadn’t and now she is hell bent on tearing down all of their lives. To me, it was too dark, I did try and flesh it out with an outline for over a month, but something in me, just didn’t feel right.
So I decided to sit down and just write, I had tried for years with no luck, but this time I had a character. And a title. A Fall for Grace. And that was when it hit me, someone needed to fall FOR Grace. Someone needed to love her and let her know that she was loved, a fall FOR Grace.
And so the story begins with her heartbreaking, feeling like she will never love again as great as the love she has for Jim. I feel that way about my husband, God forbid anything happen, I know I could never love again, because what I have with him is so deep and strong, that I know no one will ever hold a candle to him.
This is the love that Grace and Jim share, a love so strong that not even time, distance or spouses can ever destroy.
